The first watch in Space was not Swiss or American made - it was by the proud Soviet Union. "Poljot" (flight) was produced by the First Moscow Watch Factory. Poljot was the first Russian watch granted permission by the Soviet government to export overseas. On April 12th 1961 the great Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space, and throughout his mission he wore a Sturmanskie (Navigator) pilots' wristwatch, where the name was changed to Poljot in 1963. Later,Poljot watches were taken to space flights by astronauts from several countries such as France, Russia, Ukraine,Uzbekistan and Germany.
